Need your input...super frustrated!

So my search for rims continues since I cracked my G-Racing Seki's back in October last year..been riding on my stockies since and i'm not liking it at all..

Been in contact with a local vendor and tried to get some of the following rims, but they don't have it my desired offset AND color choice (given i went with these because i like the look of having no lip and what inspired me are the Work Emotions CR Kai..just way too expensive )

so my first alternative was..
Rota Torque, 17x8 with a 35 offset in hyper black or black

second, i was thinking about the Rota Grid, 17x7.5 with a 35 offset in black or hyper black

third, i started considering since the first 2 choices don't come they way i like..
Drag DR-34, 17x7.5 with a 42 offset in flat black with the red strip (aka time attack)..now i know what you guys may think, its so rice..but that's where i want you guys to chime in..do you know if i can somehow paint the red strip? if so, then this may be the rims that i may consider..)

i also like Axis Halo's but they don't come in our lug pattern and again they have do the colored strips (perhaps if anyone knows of an alternative to that style? )

and my last option is..
Drag DR-9, 18x7 with a 40 offset in gloss black with a chrome lip..the drawback with this option is that it's basically a replica of the g-racing seki's that i had before and i'm trying to go for something new..

so if you guys can chime in and help a brotha out, much criticism and talk is encouraged..i've talked to Nate aka switchfootvz a couple times and he has helped but wondering if anybody else can help me out..TIA

ohh yea thanks! forgot to mention a couple other things..

so i basically have tires for 18inch rims so that's what i would like to go with so i don't have to buy new tires, if i were to go with 17s..

my budget for 18s is $750 total for all 4 rims

my budget for 17s is $500 total for all 4 rims, because i'll have to pay for tires, plus mounting balancing and then of course alignment..

TIA

it would help a lot if you posted pics of the rims you're referring to so people don't have to go out and search each wheel

Rota Torque

Rota Grid

Drag DR-34

Axis Halo

Drag DR-9 (look just like G-Racing Seki's)

I'd be inclined to go with either Rota or Axis, simply because Drag seems to be a knockoff company. If someone can prove otherwise, then I still like the 1st Rotas. But that's just me.

Rotas are a knock off company too Matt

But my vote is the Rota Torque

thanks for the quick input, but like i said in my first post..the Torque's do no come in my desired offset AND color choice..

http://www.rotawheel.com/AVAILABILITY.htm

the reason why i like the Torques is because they resemble the Work Emotion CR Kai that i originally like but are $900 without shipping and taxes..

keep it coming guys! i'd like as much input as possible, or if you guys know of other rims out there that i may want to consider!

^ these in 18

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rota-...Q5fAccessories

^ or these in 17. saw em yesterday and thought they were an awesome deal, not to mention they are very hard to find in our bold pattern.

plus you'd be sitting pretty flush with concave

theres a phone number on there, it says call for all rota needs. chances are they are an official rota dealer, and that means that they are legit as it gets. j

Yeah man, work emotions would be my choice because they're ridiculously sick, but those 17 hypers are sweet, I do love concave rims

grids are pretty nice dude, I can dig

IMO (and you probably already know this) but I'm not too big a fan of rotas/sportmaxx's...but rather getting old school quality rims and putting some elbow grease into em: example:
http://www.rbwheels.com/index.php?ma...d5bbab7628d8d7

But yeah, a lot of the subbie and scion tc and even some 350 guys are running rotas these days, so there's something to be said about that. I just...would not want to be sitting on rotas when it comes to hitting a pothole at 30+mph...just from what I've seen/read.

am i the only one who doesn't think any of those ebay wheels are gonna work?
i'm going to use H22 euro R's car for reference

so his wheels are 16x8 0 offset
the first wheel on ebay is 18x9.5 +15 offset so it will stick out 4-5mm further than his wheels
the second wheels on ebay are 17x9.5 +12 offset so they will stick out 7-8mm further than his wheels
are you sure you want wheels that stick out farther than that? not my choice, but it's your car

another better reference for better viduals, flip's thread
https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-cl-tires-wheels-suspension-58/18x9-et-7-lols-694022/

so he's mocking up 18x9 +7 in those pics
first set on ebay, 18x9.5 +15 offset, would be 2mm closer to fender (less aggressive) compared to the wheel picture above
second set on ebay, 17x9.5 +12 offset, would be 1mm further from fender (more aggressive) compared to the wheel picture above
and this is just for the rear, so imagine what it would look like on the front

thanks mitch! so if i definitely don't want to poke out that much! so 12 offset is a little too much then huh? i like the offset to be in the 35-40 range..semi concave but nothing too extreme and to the point where i'm poking out too much..but thank you for the reference and the clarification on the offset on the ebay rims.

^no problem, was kinda confused no one else chimed in about it
but i certainly wouldn't want you to pick up a set of wheels and have them not fit afterwards
in our sizes you won't get too much concave, but you can post up some, and we should chime ni if they fit or not
or search for some members on here, and see what wheel specs you like

Is there anywhere to get some older, nicer wheels that aren't staggered?

it all depends on tire size, slammage, camber. i mean no doubt those wheels would work, but there might be some work needed for fitment, but its worth it in the end

I hope flip chimes in here again on this becasue he has the most experience

oh and yes you can get a lot of concave in our sizes

yea not looking to do too much work..i want it to fit nice with no to little poke..i'm definitely going to drop it more especially if i end up getting 17s and only to the point where i'm not running through tires every couple months because my car is a daily driver..
and with offset, i don't think i want to go any lower than 30, as much as i like the concave look..

thanks everyone, keep it coming!

if thats the case. heres a nice wide wheel with 27 offset in your price range kinda haha. but they kinda resemble the work emotions. i think they would look sick with a little stretch on the tire and slammage.

Sportmax 006

18x8.5
+35 offset

Sportmax 941

18x7.5
+42 offset

Enkei FN-18

18x7.5
+42 offset

a few that follow your basic needs. I really like the 006's, always wondered what the enkeis would look like on a nice lowered CL though. Good Luck w/ your search though, I'm sort of in the same boat.

i like the tenzos, but in those sizes/offsets you're not gonna get as crazy of a concave look as the pictures
here is a 18x8 +45 tenzo type M, it doesn't look too bad, but the spokes kind of stick out and then go back in
but again, your car your choice, just thought i'd give you a picture of two for reference of what the actual wheels you're buying will look like

thanks Mitch for the reference..yea it sucks that they don't make a lower offset like in the 30s..that would be nice..but if i get the full black type-m then i don't think it'll be too bad?? thanks again for the reference..

@Nate: what wheels are rice? the Tenzo's??

The Rota Torque's are almost a perfect match minus the color and in 17x8 +35, it should give you a bit of the concave look everybody likes. If you want to go aggressive/staggered, maybe even get a set of 17x9 +30's for the rear. I'd like to see a set of those on a CL.

Also, if you go with a used high-end JDM wheel, you'll want to save up some extra cash to get them looking new again. To have the wheels professionally stripped and powder coated, expect to pay about $80 a wheel.

thanks blazin...yea i do like the Rota Torque's since those are the closest to the Work Emotion CR Kai that i originally want..but the only problem is that they don't have it in the color that i like, not even gunmetal..just a bronze and i'm not feeling the bronze..

and i know that you, switchfootvz and flip are all liking the JDM style, but that's not my style..but thank you and i like what you've done to yours so far!

On Rota's site, they show a nice dark gunmetal.
