Question Front Strut Tower Brace Bar question for 1st Gen 1G CL

I couldn't find any info in the N00b. Is there a different one for our car. I just feel that after lowering the car with Tein Basics and the front Tanabe Sustec sway bar/Rear ST sway bar, my front still leans quite a bit. Tires are 225/45-17s Toyo T1R, if it makes a diff. I had a 96 Infiniti I35t without a strut tower brace. After adding a cheapo one, the front seemed a lot more planted.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Much appreciated. Thank you.

Yep, it's in the n00b guide, but maybe not directly. All of our suspension parts are from a 94-97 accord so any 94-97 accord upper and lower strut braces will fit. With my 3.0 I did have to grind down a bracket in order to get my strut bar to sit flush.

You will need to remove the stock strut brace which is a hollow piece of junk, you also can get a 3 point brace because it does have the bolt holes against the firewall, but they're hard to find for cd7 accords.

Thanks for the info ... when you say upper and lower strut braces, what is the stock that we have? Where would the lower and upper be located and is it worth doing both? Which one did you do and did you notice a diff?

Braces dont do much of anything for sway. The do just like the name... brace. It stiffens the body to reject twisting. This in turn gives you better/quicker steering response.

They both will give you a bit of improvement, they both tie the 2 struts together which stiffen up the handling. I have both upper and lower, I definitely noticed a huge improvement with my lower strut brace, but the biggest improvement I noticed was from adding larger front and rear sway bars

Question

A couple more questions. I'm assuming the upper brace is the one in the engine bay, which 97Black mentioned that it was hollow. Where exactly is the lower one and can I replace it myself. Also, I see a lot of cheap stuff, no name on Ebay. At what price point do I get a quality one that does the job, or do you recommend going with a brand name, like Tanabe, Neuspeed only?

Thanks again!!!

corretc, the upper brace is the one in the engine bay, the stock one ties to the chassis where the aftermarket ones tie the 2 shock towers together. The lower one ties the 2 lower controll arms together. I have the cusco (tanabe) lower strut brace, and I highly recommend it. I got mine from Marcus, the Type 1 lower brace, he sells upper braces as well.

Just out of curiosity, when you installed the upper brace, giving that it installs to the strut tower, not like it is OEM, were there bolts there or did the bar come (are they needed?) bolts to install it?

Thanks again.

You use the bolts that hold the shock/spring assemblies, the connect right to the top of the shock towers

hey chris, do you have a pic of the lower strut bar?? you did turn me on to the st sway bars and i have those..does the lower strut bar get in the way of the sway?

to OP: grabbing as much sway bar and braces will definitely help out! when i only had the upper strut brace, i did see a little difference, but then Chris turned me on to the Suspension Technique front and rear sway bars, those made a significant difference that i can feel every time i turned..since then i've also added a rear upper strut brace.

There is a company that is located in Northern California by the name of FatFourCustoms (FFC) that makes a solid three point strut bar. It is a simple design but structurally sound. They have great customer service and will have no problem shipping to Canada, as it looks as if that is where you are from. If you’d like, they can ever powdercoat the their 3pt strut bar any color you like.

If your also interested, they also make LCA’s that I’m certain will fit your car since it is the same chassis as the 94-97 Accord.

You contact them at:

If you're looking for a stiffer feel, i suggest staying away from those really cheap bars on ebay. They're usually adjustable, and they flex a bit, thus not making very good work. I have a cusco, it's solid, not flexible and yeah... makes a difference.

on FatFourCustoms..i have their LCA's and i like them..i was suppose to help them test fit the 3-point upper strut bar, but couldn't find time to do so..but i've seen it in person on an accord and it's pretty solid!
