Whine/Hum When Coasting/Deceleration

For about two weeks, I keep hearing a noise when I get off the gas to just coast on the highway or to slow down on a street. I don't hear anything out of the ordinary when I accelerate. And I don't think its the trans since it is shifting perfectly just as it has since I got the car. I am wondering if it is my front axle/ wheel bearings since my friend also thinks it is coming from that area. If it matters, I started hearing the sound after my car was hit. Thanks!

I do have a SRI, but to me it sounds like it is more of a mechanical whine. I thought it was like the differential (wrong name?) since it sounded like I would hear it when it is just spinning with the wheels (like during coasting). Who knows, maybe just since the air is getting colder the intake is making a different sound than I was used to?

a wheel bearing will have more of a roaring sound not a whine (at least all the ones I have heard did) and it will be a roar ,roar, roar when the wheels are turning not a constant rrrrroooooaaaaarrrrrrr

Not wheel bearings, and contrary to what P0401 said they do have a constant roar or droning noise for most of the time, but it is agreed that they do not whine. They sound like you have mud tires on basically.
They will make noise when weight is on them, so mine would only be quiet when you take a turn and put most of the weight on the side of the car where the wheel bearings were still fine.
And I've had 3 wheel bearings fail on 2 different cars in the last year, one of those being the front passenger one on the cl when I hit a bad pothole/dip in the road, so I've had very recent experience with this.

I actually haven't washed the CL in a while. If it really is just mud on the tires, then I'll feel happy and

I was just going by my own experience and all have been on rear wheel drive cars (this is the first Front wheel drive I have had for very long (except for an Accord years ago but only problem I had out of it was a leaking slave cylinder). they weren't a constant roar but doesn't really matter, I still have just never heard of one making a whining noise like the Op described

how much life do your break pads have left on them? when theyre worn down and the metal wear indicator is exposed, they will start a high pitched whine(usually when you are not breaking)

if it was a wheel bearing it would be a constant whine which got louder at higher speeds. it would also get louder going around a corner (dependant on which side has the bad bearing). since your only reporting a noise on brakeing id look elsewhere...

does it happen at slow speed?
does turning have any bearing (haha) on the noise?

cornering doesn't have any effect. could it somehow be related to alignment? because i started hearing it after i was hit in the quarter panel, partially spun, and i did a little hard and constant cornering

I have been thinking and I cant think of anything at all that would cause a hum noise only when coasting on any moving part of the wheel. Seems if it was anything to do with the wheels at all the hum would be louder the faster they were turning

Possibly lose air filter box or could be your pinion bearing
