Angry where is my sevice check connector?

I have a 97 2.2 CL, (manual) and latley it has been idling rough around 1000 to 2000 rpm in neutral. The check engine light came on as well so i took it to Advanced Auto Parts to get a free service check done on it and they couldn't find the connector. So I went home and checked my Chilton book, and it said it was located under the dash in the 2.2 models and we still couldn't find it. So if anybody knows where the connector is it would be nice to know where it is located so I don't have to take it to a dealer and get charged 50 bucks to get a code read.
