Trunk Falls on my Head >.<
Trunk Falls on my Head >.<
I have searched around quite a bit but havent been able to find a solution to this. My girlfriend's 99 CL trunk doesnt want to stay up when it is opened and always falls on my head when I am bringing her groceries in. I noticed its a metal rod setup and not a strut type (my cars have always been metal rods as well) but I have never had an issue. Any ideas on what I could do to fix this problem? Thanks a lot for the help!

this happens to me sometimes too but only if the trunk is not opened all the way or if it's windy, and i have a spoiler and a crapload of dynamat of my trunk lid.
As said before the rods are a bitch to replace as i have heard also, but if you are a DIY'er you can give this a try https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-tsx-2004-2008-124/gas-springs-replacement-tsx-trunk-write-up-finally-finished-310278/
this should solve your problem but i dunno if your minor problem would warrant this kind of project, anyways good luck

You do need thicker trunk springs with a wing, there is a special tool required, but if the lid keeps dropping, it's because u don't have the right springs

^ that would be my guess as well. I noticed driving behind her last night that the car also has the third brake light inside the car, so maybe the spoiler was added later and the springs were never swapped.
The rod setup looks to be similar to how mine was on my camry and I had no issues removing those and reinstalling them a couple of years ago when I had a carbon fiber trunk. I dont think it would be too terrible to fix, Ive been through far worse with my cars
And as for how often do I have this problem, we will be married in ten months, so its only going to be more often  Thanks for the input.

If the 3rd BL in the car lights up, it was def added after it shipped from the factory, the factory install came with the 3rd BL bypassed for the wing only, if they're both wired, then that was done after the fact
First, check to make sure both torsion springs are correctly seated and make sure the center clip is not broken.
There are two settings for the torsion bars on CL's: Normal and "Higher Tension"
Do the same thing pictured below, except do not remove the torsion bar; rather move both bars over to the slightly "higher" notch on the hinge bar on both sides of the trunk where they seat.

If that doesn't work, then you either did not have the correct springs installed with the spoiler or the torsion bars are completely shot and will need replaced.
