Question Transmission Problem 97 CL 3.0

I have been having Engine Light, D4 flashing, and codes P1768 and P1773. The problem happens when the car has warmed up and its parked and put into D4 from a stop. The problem is eratic, ie it happens intermittenly. It can occur anywhere from 10 to 60 miles after car is warmed up. It never seems to occur when the engine is cold in the morning. When its warmed up and I park it(to shop for something or get gas) upon restarting the car and putting it from a standstill park position to first gear is when it occurs. The car doesnt engage into gear well(D4 position) sort of a slipping condtion. I stop the car, turn it off and restart it and it will work and drive ok. The car service manual points points to the clutch pressure control valves a and b. Any suggestions or experices with this issue? Not sure how to proceed. The replacement part is around 300 dollars from the dealer but I dont want to replace a part so expensive if its not the issue. Any suggestions appreciated.

Interesting post. I am having almost the same problem with my 1997 Acura 2.2 CL. My engine starts up weird. That's one. It will start will fast though but just not the same. When I am driving it it tends to shift late. Like maybe a gear ratio is messed up or all of them. when I need to punch on the gas it feels like it also slips and catches the gear in high RPM only. I replaced all of the radiator system and it is now overheating. I have added water to it to keep it from cooling but it will still overheat if I am at a redlight for a while. but when I accelerate the temp goes back to normal. I live in Riverside, Ca if anyone can help me fix my car. I can buy the parts and just need someone to teach me. I'll buy some brews and lunch. =)

^you should start a new post so you dont clog up the op's thread. as far as your cooling system. sounds like there could be air in there. try bleeding the air out of the system and go from there.

mine does the same thing every now and then, I can turn the car off and crank it back up and it will be fine. The codes mine has is P0700, P1768 and P1773. The transmission does not slip at all and from the codes I was told it was the solenoids on the transmission that's causing it. The 1768 and 1773 codes you have indicate solenoid A and B is shorting out. When the D4 starts flashing I have to put the car into 1st gear manually to even get it to pull, but as I said above I can put it in neutral and cut it off and crank it back up and it will be fine, just the SES light is on until I reset the computer. I have noticed my ignition switch seems to be going bad because my car has the intermittent cutting off going down the road every now and then which started around the same time the codes started showing up so I am kind of hoping the ignition switch may be causing the solenoids from getting the power needed at times causing the codes
