transmission problem?

my 97 3.0CL is at about 155k km right now and i'm suspecting that my transmission is starting to give.

driving is fine, no jerky shifting, everything's smooth as normal...

however when i'm trying to reverse uphill, sometimes it feels like it's not in gear and i'm just revving it and it's not reversing.

any ideas? should i be prepared to sell my car soon?

It sounds like your canuterator valve is warped and you may need to replace the flux capacitor also... put your car in neutral... rev it to about 6k RPMs... "drop" it into drive and see how your tranny works after that...

dont sell the CL!!... though

Now I don't claim to know much about cars, but you can't be serious...

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but where's a moderator or serious Azine member when you need one?

Neutral dumping is good to do when the car is not yours

The Flux Capacitor is what makes time travel possible. (It's not related to your transmission )

I 'll help you out, our trannies are really bad sometimes when your uphill the tranny will shift out of place. Your best bet and this is what I have done is let it roll for a second put your foot on the brake then put it in reverse. What this will do is allow the tranny if it is out of place to align it's self back.Get ready to throw a new tranny in cause at 155 it's due. What ever you do don't get rid of your car, investing 2,000 on a new tranny and your car will last for another 155k.

That comment was uncalled for, he's asking for help.

Def sounds like your tranny is jacked up, is it the original tranny? Could be the torque converter

I thought I could throw in a sarcastic comment like i see sometimes... I mean... at 155k miles like USMC said... trannies are bound to go... the little I've been here I know that the 3.0 trannies =

it does sound like your transmission is getting ready to go.

I know it has probably been asked before but what kind of milage are people getting when driven responsibly? I'm at 130k and everything is smooth and shifting nicely, so just getting ready for the count down to disaster.

I have an 99 Acura CL 3.0 (No MoDs) and I dont really drive it that much, I bought it new with 178 miles and I baby it, and now I only have 76,000 miles with no Mods and I had to REPLACE my TRANSMISSION ! ! ! it went out at 68,000 THAT PISSED ME OFF ! and my friend had a 97 CL3.0 and his tranny went out at 82,000 miles !!! then I Looked in "Consumer Reports" Magazine and it showed that the Acura 97-99 CL 3.0s were almost a perfect car except for the transmissions and even the Acura dealership told me that the 3.0 motor is too powerful for the transmissions. So a few thousand $$$ later and I have my sweet ride back.

Yeah vancouver CL's. I had a used one put in at 243k, and it's been good so far. Now at 263k and it's pretty well the usual. Little rough sometimes, but I'm glad I kept the car.

Bad servo for the reverse gear. You could also have a problem with the shift selector switch. It might be going into gear mechanically, but if the computer doesn't know, then it doesn't put power to the correct selenoids. Have a diagnostic run on the ecu. See if there are any "non fatal" codes. I've never heard of the reverse gear failing in our transmissions. It is usually 2nd gear that fails and causes the rest of the damage. Stupid valve/selenoid system.

yup...it crapped out on me and i'm getting a rebuild...it's gonna cost me about $3800 ($4200 if i get the 3-year warranty). they said what happened was there was a hole in the housing that holds the clutch plates. it was because it got too hot...and it stripped all the metal from the plates.

He's right, it's about time for a new tranny anyways. It really will last another 155k if it's done right. Don't get rid of it, just get it checked out. If you do go to a shop to get it done, it may take them a week or so to do it which I know is total bs but remember, they have to take a ton of crap out to get to it. Also, make sure you're not just leaking tranny fluid anywhere.

i dont think honda auto transmissions can handle 200hp or more....seems every single car with a j3x or h22 is having trouble with autos.
