thud/bump bump when i turn my steering wheel

every time i turn my steering wheel a complete rotation, there is a small bump bump. i can feel it when i turn the wheel. i know it is in the steering colum cause the mechanic looked into it for me. i forgot what it was though. some type of universal joint under the dash that my steering colum is connected to. please, tell me what this is called and if i can find a cheap one somewhere on ebay or something.

also, will this have anything to do with my alligment? i noticed after i changed out my sway bar links, (little rubber bushings on each side) that i am not getting the whoopti sounding sqweeking when i sit in it or hit a bumb. also, when i hit a small bump in the road the car doesnt move left or right anymore. obviously i got the allignment done after i changed those out. but also before i got the allignment, i got the boots replaced on the steering.. uhmm... i am lost for words and forget what they are called. not the CV joints though. ANYWAYS, after this i went and got the allignment done and everything seems fine. but now, after a week of driving, there seems to be movement in the steeringwheel when i hit a bump again. not sure what the hell is going on.

i have the bump in the steering colum and when i hit a small divit or something in the road, the car steers left or right on me and doesnt keep going straight....

anyone? anyone?

It's called the steering joint. I think you'll have to pull the entire steering column to get at the steering joint. I would suggest downloading the 94-97 Accord manual from hondahookup.com to see the pics under the steering section. Your CL should be very similar or identical to the Accords.

Lowest cost and best part would be from a salvaged car. Check car-part.com for a salvage yard near you. You may have to buy the entire steering column. Careful w/ the air bag connectors, etc. Follow the manual, if you DIY.

good luck

wow, thanks. you pretty much just summed everything up on that post. thanks again. what do you suggest i do? get it done somewhere or do it myself? you think it could be done in an hour if they knew what they were doing? there is a place around here i have had some stuff done that the guy and i are cool and he only charges me $50 per hour...

or is it kinda simple and i could do it myself?

It doesn't look simple. I would suggest a body shop may have experience w/ this repair. I think an hour labor looks too optimistic, more like 3-4. Lots of parts to remove and replace.

good luck
