Temp gauge wont go past the first line

I guess I am going to have to take everything apart to see whats wrong because I have left the car running for close to an hour without the radiator cap on and squeezed the hose to "burp" the radiator and my gauge still will not go past the first white line when sitting and when moving down the road it goes all the way down like its not reading any temperature at all. If anyone has any other recommendations I can try please let me know as this is all I have come up with on a search on here and a Google search trying to find out something else to try. It does say there is supposed to be some type of hole on the Thermostat that is supposed to be at top and that may cause this so I may have to tear it down and check that but if that is correct I don't know what else could be the problem as I have already swapped out the gauge itself with another one and it does the exact same thing so I don't think it can be the gauge itself

Try checking the temperature sending unit. Just takes a minute with a voltmeter but I'm not sure what the voltage should be.
