Replacing Radiator
Hi all,
The radiator went on my 97 2.2 CL. I've visualized these repairs and I wanted to verify with you guys before I do the job.
I want to first drain everything out of the system. For the 2.2 CL, does the rad have a wingnut to drain the coolant? If not, how are they drained? Someone told me you have to adjust some valve to bypass the thermostat when draining...is this true? If i'm completely missing something, please let me know.
To add coolant back into the rad is pretty simple I believe, fill it up...let it run for a bit and keep topping it up.
If I drain everything out of the system, how many litres of premixed coolant would I need? Do you all recommend honda coolant or can I do fine with Prestone?
Thanks a lot

I use prestone, living in Florida in the heat of the summer and i've had no issues
Filling it up is just as you said, fill, run or do a few very small revs to force it down, fill, etc....
The rest idk :p

There's only 2 companies that make antifreeze, they rest just rebottle it
I use prestone 50/50 premixed, it's great, and not very expensive. To drain it, you can putz around with the drain plug on the bottom, or you can just yank the bottom hose off, that's what I did, just make sure you don't have any dogs or cats around and that you have a drain where you're emptying it or an oil catch to catch the fluid. Also make sure you have a degreaser to clean up afterwards. Replacing it is simple, unhook the fans, and undo the bolt on the bottom in the middle (10 mm) and remove the upper mounts. If you have an auto, you will also have to remove the transmission lines, and transfer them to the new rad.
To refill the rad, fill it with coolant, and then run the car with the rad cap off and wait till it doesn't bubble anymore to make sure you get all the air out.
