Question about '97 Acura CL

Hi, I have a '97 Acura CL w/ auto transmission. Sometimes, when my car is cold the steering feels really loose and unresponsive. On the freeway I can wiggle the steering wheel and it barely responds. After a couple minutes, it tightens back up and feels normal again. Seems like it could be a dangerous problem.. anyone have an idea what it could be? Also, my transmission will almost redline before it shifts, if I punch it getting on the freeway. Sometimes it will rev up like its in neutral when it shifts. Is this what it's supposed to do, or do I have a bad tranny? It seems to shift fine during normal driving. Is the automatic transmission a 4 speed? Thanks for any help

I am not sure about the power steering. I would think either replacing the fluid in the resevior and lines or replace the pump. I do however know about the transmission. My tranny does the same thing. I have been told that either the two solenoids need replacing or the clutch pack is worn out. I have 177K on the tranny now and when I drive normal, its good but when I get on it, it slips. I flushed the tranny and put a bottle of Lucus Stop Slip, it helped some but the problem is still there, just not as bad which leads me to believe the clutch pack is worn. I was quoted $2400 to rebuild my tranny so i am trying to strech the holy hell out of it. Good luck and hope this helps.

Sbja Check your balljoints lower ball joints. ALso an alignment. How are your tires?

1997 sounds like the tranny needs to go or replace with honda trans oil. I replace mine. Got a used JDM transmission off ebay for 550 i believe and labor is 400 if your lucky. 950 is better than 2500 right?

Have your power steering pump checked, also sounds like your tranny is starting to give out

would it be better to get a new(used) transmission, or rebuild it when it goes out?
