Problem with polishing headlights..

Hello,

I am new to Acurazine.. I just purchased a 97 2.2CL, 5spd as my daily driver a few days ago..

So far I love it!

I did the blackhouse to my headlights and ordered some HIDs..

I decided it would be a great time to polish up the foggy headlight housing lenses.

Now, I am familiar with polishing headlights to get them to look brand new.. However; I am having a problem with my passenger side headlight.

It has a film in certain areas that I cannot take off.

I wetsanded/soapy water from 800grit, 1000grit, 2000 grit, then mothers aluminum polish. I just cannot seem to remove the film..

I can feel the difference in surface texture where the film is.. It did not come off when wetsanding.

Is there something I am doing wrong with these acura headlights? or are these just too far gone for any reconditioning?

I have not tried the 3m plastic polish yet though.. I figured the mothers aluminum polish should've done good enough.

Has anyone else had this issue and got it resolved? I can post pictures of necessary.

Thanks in advance!
Shawn

I have polished mine twice so far and have never had this problem. I am not sure what the film is that is on your headlight but you may need to get a coarser grit sand paper to get it off and then go with the finer grit to finish polishing it out

It is an odd film.. its mainly around areas where the light would pass through when having lights on..

I went as low as 800grit but wetsanded with a good amount of dawn dish soap.. maybe it was a little too slippery..

I did however wetsand with 800 grit for a good 15 mins across each headlight, using swirls, back n forth etc..

I'll go down to like 600grit and step its way up ..

thanks for the reply!

Shawn

ps. Do you know of a good mounting kit for using an aftermarket single din headunit? Or a good way to mount the stock storage housing with it?

I kind of like having the door on it, makes it look classier..

I have heard there was two different types that are sold at bestbuy and one was good, the other sucks..

a possible picture of the "good" one?

Thanks again..
