pop sound when i hit the brakes or press the gas from a stop
Hi,
I an a noob, so please be kind with your comments.
i recently bought a 99 acura cl 3.0. very nice car and i love it.
A few weeks ago i started hearing a pop sound (a single pop) when i hit the brake and bring the car to a stop, and another single pop sound when i press the gas from a stop and the car starts moving. the sound comes from the passenger side front wheel area.
So far it does not come when i'm turning, so i don't know if its the CV joint.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I never though of that. I popped the hood and stood next to the car while a friend drove it back and forth. I did hear the sound coming from somewhere inside the hood.
Is there a way I can check to see if its an engine mount.. and also do you know how much fixing something like this would cost. If i am unable to fix it right now, would it cause problems?
Thank you.

Your vehicle has two motor mounts front and back... your best bet is to visually inspect them. If they're cracked or pieces are missing then they're bad. Here is a website that shows you what they look like...http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sh.../acura/cl.html
As far as driving your vehicle, It will be okay for a while if the clunking isn't enough to feel in your seat. I strongly advise you not to have a lead foot though the mounts will last longer (what's left of them).
Good luck
PS: If your going to fix the vehicle yourself you should get a haynes/chilton manual from your local auto parts store......you may have to order it from their computer.

Thanks.
I was due for a service and had a coupon from the local honda dealer so i took it there. I asked him to visually check the mounts and he said they looked fine and he didn't see anything visible.
If they were to investigate the sound they charge 90 odd bucks an hour just to find out whats making the sound..
anyone have any other idea's what it could be?
Thanks.

could be one of the differential bearings. go under your car and shake the drive shaft. if you get any move ment from where they connect to the tranny that could be your culprit. they will slide length wise but they shoudnt move at all from front to back.

Thank you everyone for your input.
Wilp99: I did check the differential bearings and that seemed to be good. I finally went to the mechanic and paid the hourly rate for them to have a look. It turned out to be a lose engine mount bolt. Thank god. so he tightened that up and it all seems good to go. I drove the car around today a bit and havent heard the sound at all.
Cheers.
