P0500 is VSS circuit low input. This means the signal voltage to the ECU is low. It could be a weak sensor. VSS is relatively cheap to replace. Check ebay for replacement. If you're adventurous, you can pull the VSS, remove the cap, clean the rotor and sensor face of dirt/grease and reinstall. Very easy to do (3 phillips head screws). I suspect that most faults arise from grease obscuring the signal generated. Is speedometer working?

P0171 is "System too lean". This has a whole host of possibilites, but faulty O2 sensor would be at top of my list. This can be a misleading code w/ the system actually too rich, as ECU adds fuel trying to correct perceived lean system detected by O2 sensor output. If fuel mileage has gone to hell, O2 sensor is prime suspect.

Suggest to get a manual to understand the full diagnostics. You could download a 94-97 Accord manual from hondahookup.com.

P0420 may be the result of P0171, so don't worry about this till you resolve P0171.

P0500 is unrelated to either P0171 or P0420. However, it's a good idea to reset ECU and see which code is set first.

good luck

Thanks TXHonda, I appreciate the feedback. I'm going to order a new VSS from an OEM site since I knew this was causing my speedometer to act up. I will also get my O2 checked when I have time.
