I got no tail lights and instrument lights when headlights are on.
Hey guy's I've got a 1999 CL 3.0. I've not done anything to the car except put a hitch receiver for a bike rack. Which always gets weird looks.![Wish](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wish.gif)
I've got the problem that when I turn my headlights on, the tail lights and instrument panel lights don't turn on. I have turn signals, break & reverse lights. The radio and all the other power options. Right now when I drive at night I'll periodically tap my brakes just to keep those behind me awake, otherwise it looks like I don't have my lights on.
I've checked all the fuses under the hood and within the car and have found all the fuses to be good. I'm not sure what to check next. There are probably a mulitude of items to check.
I'd prefer not to pay dealer rates for this type of work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely the switch assy on the steering wheel has failed. You can pull the connector at base of steering wheel column and check switches. Youl''ll need a wiring diagram to understand which wires to check for voltage in/out.
First check for voltage at the light bulb sockets in trunk to be sure you don't have damaged sockets (unlikely that all are damaged).
good luck

if no fuses are blowing its most likely teh switch assembly. if you need a new one i have an extra in my garage. pm me if you need it. i went through a similar nightmare a few months back. disconnect the wiring for the hitch and see what happens

had the same problem the first time i ever hooked up a radio, if you haven't hooked up any radio's lately, then like the guys above said i'd check the switch.
if you have to replace the switch it not too bad just removethe sterring wheel(make sure to deactivate the SRS system) and its a couple of screws
