Horn sounds when I turn off headlights

I've got a pretty significant problem that just started occuring on my 97 2.2 CL.

Last night when I was driving home, I saw a little bit of smoke and a slight burning smell... I noticed my gauge cluster lights getting dimmer. Then the left indicator on the dash just lit up and stayed on, and the left blinker itself wouldn't work anymore.

Finally, when I get home, I turn the car off and shut off the lights, and my horn starts blaring nonstop, until I turn the lights back on. So I had to pull the fuse, which disables my brakelights...

I'm guessing there was some sort of short or something because of the smoke. Anyone heard of this problem before? I gotta figure out how to fix it, and quick

Sound like nothing you can do unless you can rewire electronics, Take it to the perfessionals if you want the job done right. Im guessing it did short.

I had some smoking today when I was driving it, which appeared like it could be coming from the steering column. Any idea if it's pretty easily accessable just by removing the cover? If so I'll try that tonight, and hopefully I can get it replaced.

Found out all my wires in the steering column melted. They have to splice in all new ones... $1000 later it should be fine. This isn't a good start to a new car!
