hmm wierd

when its cold out, my speedmeter freezes and jumps from like 0 to 15 and then to the speed im traveling. and it sometimes will stay at the speed when im at a complete stop, but after a bit of warming up it goes back to normal.
need help! hopefully if i get caught speeding the speedmeter will still be stuck and i can try to get out of the ticket.

The most likely reason is a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). The VSS plugs into the transmission and generates a pulsed voltage signal that is used by the instrument panel to drive the speedometer and odometer movements. They are prone to fail in all Hondas and Acuras. Check ebay for a low priced replacement part. OEM is pricey.

If you're really into DIY, you might remove the sensor, disassemble, clean, and regrease the rotating magnet and clean the sensor face. I recently opened one I removed from my 2.5TL and found the grease had gone very stiff and burnt. If you do this the amount of grease should be limited and placed under the rotating magnet, not on the magnet body. You don't want anything to interfere w/ magnet inducing voltage into the coil sensor.

VSS is behind the distributor on the transaxle. Remove inlet to access.

good luck

That is the entire drive assembly including the gear that engages the drive shaft. You only need to remove the VSS, which is electrical part connected to the top of the assy. There is a small link which engages a slot on lower drive unit to turn the VSS magnet.

I would highly recommend some type of shop manual. Even an Accord manual would help.

good luck
