hey guys the emergency brake light indicator in the dash stays on even after i have released the E-brake. i noticed that the light was flickering on and off recently maybe past couple of days right after we had a winter storm in my area while i was driving. but today i noticed that its not even flickering on and off anymore instead the brake light indicator stays on all the time even while i am driving the car and i know that i already released the E-brake. its getting me worried so if anyone can give me a clue as to what is going on it would be greatly appreciated

 

same thing happened to me last week during our snow storm...just refill the brake fluid, worked for me

 

just check ur break oil.. it happened to me too.. and when i asked my bodyshop, he just checked the oil and now it's okay.. just open ur hood and check it..

 

Any of you yah-hoo's heard about the rear brakes seizing up? Don't just refill the damn thing. Look for a problem. The CL is known for defective rear brake calipers. It will seize up causing your pads to wear down to the metal. Which would pull more brake fluid out of the tank to compensate for the worn pads.

Let me know if you need pics of what to look for. If it doesn't get immediate attention it will cost you lots of ching ching! It's easy to pull apart. Take you 5 minutes per wheel to check.

 

Yeah that happened to mine... the good people at carmax told me that it was just the brake fluid when in reality my brake censors were going haywire!


Ps...Sometimes its better to start with the easiest/cheapest possibilities so make sure you dont have any crap stuck under the e brake handle thats causing the light to flicker or stay on (this happened to me in my old altima)

 

I had the exact same problem during the snow storm! The brake light was on and off for the 1st half hour and then went away. Also, I've this brake noise from the rear ever since I replaced them with Akibono (spelling?) ceramic brake pads. Can you post some pictures for the rear brakes inspection?

 

I will email the pics if you want. This is a serious problem. First you should notice the BRAKE light coming on while you're driving. Then you will hear the rear pads dragging. Sounds like metal on metal whine. Terrible in reverse.

 

if the fluid is low there isnt necessairly a problem. it gets lower as the brakes wear down. cause it takes more fluid to push the piston in, (making the resuvoir seem low.) so instead of freakin out on something that usually has no warning (seizing brakes) just fill it back up. unless its down between the middle of max and min. then its time to change the brakes. or look for a leak.

 

As has been said its probably the brake fluid, but since it happend during inclimate weather checking it out more throughly is a good idea. Over the last 6 months I had to replace both my rear calipers. One was leaking and the other had the emergency brake line sieze up (it was engaged at the time). So if the car has seen alot of corrosive materials (salt, liquid de-icer, etc.) definitly get it looked at you may have something rusted up.

 

My rear left caliper went out a few months ago. Worry about when ur brake pedal feels 'spongy' when u press. happened to me. Hopefully look at all u can do b4 that happens cause it'll take u twice as long to brake...eeeek!

 

Yep. You guys are right. It only takes a pretty sufficient amount of fluid loss to make the brake light stay on. So just ignore the warning that something might be wrong with your car. Just add more fluid and keep hauling ass!! Just because your shit seizes up or becomes harder to stop... doesn't mean that anything is wrong. Just add more fluid. Honda put that light there for no reason at all. Have fun guys!!

 

i never said to ignore the light haas... i only said that USUALLY its just low, and our resuvoir sensors are tepremental. so dont go makin a simple ass comment into a stump the dummy contest. and that eye looks gay.

 

The problem can also relate to the brake fluid reservoir float and also filter. We've had many problems with accord, civics, CR-Vs, and preludes all coming in because their brake light comes on during a cold start, then goes away once the engine is warm. There is typically no problem with the car. However, there are updated floats and filters available at your honda and also acura dealership taht cost around 10-15 in total. All you need to do is take out the filter from the reservoir and also the plastic float, and re-install the new ones.

What happens is the filter does not allow the float to properly float up to the connection point and causes the brake light to go on.

 

Well #2 for me!!!!!!! Same problem reoccuring. Brake light on for a while, added more fluid. Comes back and added more fluid...good for now. Brake light on again and now after a couple of days the pedal is spongy. Whatya know....now my right brake capiler is fu*^ed!...just like the left rear that happened a few months ago.

Has anyone else had rear caliper problems????????????

I have the same issue with my 99, has anyone also experienced an ABS light along with the brake light that never goes away? I'm assuming the two may be related?
