Help! P0730 incorrect gear ratio

I currently hav a 98 3.0 with 190K miles on it. I am still on the original transmission and today the transmission suddenly started slipping & bucking on the highway. I was able to make it home okay.

Heres is what a discoverd, first of all the engine light came on with code P0730 "incorrect gear ratio". I noticed the radiator was leaking at the bottom, I think where the line feeds to the transmission cooling system. The transmission it self is not leaking. Am I screwed or is it simply a case that the tranny is acting up due to over heating because of the leaking antifreeze?

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments.

First, repair the radiator, drain and flush (shop's do this for you) the trans fluid to be sure no engine coolant got into the trans. You can't flush on your own very easily. Trans fluid contamination w/ coolant would cause lot's of problems and a quick failure likely.

P0730 is a faulty shift control system. Trans is failing to shift correctly between gears, and may be stuck in 1st gear. This is a major fault and may not be repairable w/o removing and rebuilding the trans.

good luck
