Hello, this site has been so helpful, with great responses from the other members. But this time I'm stuck! My first post so please feel free to comment on anything I have forgotten to put in it.

I have a 1997 Acura CL 3.0, automatic transmission. I bought it used with 200k miles on it. Everything under the sun has gone wrong with it and I've had to fix or replace the battery, alternator, radiator, and all the hoses, the thermostat, the ECT, the front axle, spark plugs, oil and filter, drained and replaced tranny fluid, the brakes, the air bags, the starter, and a lot of screws and interior stuff. I finally thought I had it working great until tonight. I'm driving down the freeway about 65mph and all of a sudden the RPM's fly up to 5k and it feels like someone stepped on the brakes, then the RPM's drop radically. The car didn't die , it just slowed down to 40mph and ran normal again for another 45 seconds just long enough for me to hit the accelerator & try to get the car going 65mph again. Then it repeated. It did this 4 or 5 times til I was able to get off freeway and make it home. I have a code scanner and it said 0 codes. There has been a strong raw gas smell for a couple of weeks, but I haven't noticed it in the last couple of days. The windshield wipers go off by themselves intermittently. Always, swiping twice then they park for a couple of minutes & then repeat. I don't know if this is important to know, but I want to include everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The jumps in rpm usually have to do with the TPS (throttle position sensor) Search around on here you should find more info. Just hope it's that and not your transmission

 

sounds like you have the "charelene" of CL's moody.

 

Thanks for responses...it's pretty bad..I jacked up the front end & the driver's side undercarriage is dripping tranny fluid. I had no tranny fluid. No wonder my car was freaking out. One of the hoses rubbed up against the battery holding plate & gave itself a huge slice. So, I'll keep you posted if that's not the problem. I just can't imagine that slice doing as much spraying as it did. Hope for the best!
