Factory Alarm

I bought a 98 2.3CL about a week ago to save miles and money on gas on my 07 Tacoma. The factory alarm is giving me some issues.

When I lock and unlock the doors the lights on the car flash, however the security indicator on the top door panel does not light up. Also the horn doesn't chirp.

I have also noticed that the immobilizer light does not light up at any point in time.

The remote that came with the car is pretty ragged out and I tried holding the unlock and truck release button at the same time to activate the chirp but this doesn't work either. By the way the trunk release does work on the remote.

I am wondering if the security light on the door is just burned out as well as the immobilizer light on the dash. Also, the battery in the remote could be old causing problems as well.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am going to check all of the fuses tomorrow and while I am at it would like to look for other things that could be causing this problem.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I checked the hood sensor by disconnecting it and still the alarm doesn't chirp or the security light flash. So I am going to by a new battery for the remote to see if that helps. I also checked all the fuses, they seem to be fine. However, after disconnecting the hood sensor I armed the car and after about 2-3 minutes under the hood checking the fuses, I heard the relay start clicking and looked at the headlights and saw them flashing. I guess the alarm went off? But there was no horn or anything. For some reason the horn is disabled and possibly the security indicator has burned out.

Also, I am worried as to why the immobilizer light does not function, could it be burned out as well?

I know that I am not going to take it to the local Acura dealer, they are pretty much a joke. Matter of fact that is one of the main reasons why I sold my 05 TSX. The blower motor was going out and I had to take it back 3 times just to convince them to fix it. At that time the car was only had 5,000 miles on it. It was a sweet car though.

If your headlight flash with a delay it's probably because you have a sensor with a shortcut in my case I have been forced to cut the wire inside the car next to the alarm and then he work well(see other topic ). If you want to know if the alarm work let your conductor window open and then try to lock the car with your fob .after 2-3 min try to unlock from the inside if the car is armed you will heard it if not try to lock with the switch inside so if it does work it will be your fob battery if not it will be a sensor
