My 97 3.0 just failed Emmissions due to an apparent problem with the EVAP System. The check engine light has been on for quite awhile...it's been to the dealer several times in the past to find out that nothing was wrong (probably gas cap not tight enough), so I haven't bothered to take it back in to pay $100 just to have them turn the light off and tell me nothing is wrong again.

Could the check engine light be causing the EVAP system to fail inspection? If not, any other suggestions?

o2 sensor, or did you unplug batt at all? get a computer to tell you the code or do the paperclip trick
