Question Engine Overheating Problem

Whats going on fellow CLers...My car isn't overheating but the temperature needle reaches a little bit above the halfway point..I just want to know what the problem could and maybe you guys can help..If I drive on the highway for more then 10 minutes my temperature needle will start to go up but never get near or reach the top...As soon as I let go of the gas peddle or slow down it goes back down to below the halfway point...What do you think the problem can be..Is it the thermostat or something.?..Because I can let my car sit forever and the temperature won't go up at all...Any suggestions to what it can be would be greatly appreciated..Thanks again

Hmmm, from what I gather from your post sounds like it could be the thermostat not opening all the way causing not enough flow or a clogged radiator.

I would replace the thermostat and possibly the radiator cap just in case and the thermostat is cheap, probably around $8-$15 and easy to install. Try that first.

Are you getting any coolant leaks?

No coolant leaks...I probably will replace the thermostat because that is the only thing I think it can be..Because in town driving it is fine most of the time..

It could well be a faulty thermostat and that is first thing I would try.

If this doesn't fix, suspect a bad cylinder head gasket allowing some combustion gas to enter the coolant system. Not as likely as bad thermostat.

Make sure both cooling fans are running w/ AC on, and will also come on after prolonged idle w/o AC. If not, you may have a cooling fan or cooling fans switch problem. Not likely since the car should run cool w/o fans at highway speeds.

good luck

I hope its not a head gasket problem because I just got my head gasket done due to a blown head gasket..
