Might want to check all your vacuum hoses.

ok so im thinking it may be an electronic issue. maybe one of my sensors has gone bad? question is which one? idle air control, engine coolant temp, throttle position sensor? any thoughts? my vacuum hoses all seemed to be ok.

If its a four cylinder, you need to clean the egr ports on the intake maniflold. Take off the fuel rail and under that there is an access panel. Remove that and clean the four ports with an awl and carb cleaner. I had the same thing on my 97 and it hasnt thrown the code since. They were all cloged solid with carbon on my car. Also if your car is a 97 with less than 150k I believe your covered under an extended warranty for anything emissions related.

May be two problems. Insufficient EGR flow should only cause your emissions to be out of spec. A stuck-open EGR could cause hard starting, but since you replaced the EGR valve, that seems unlikely. Perhaps faulty installation of EGR valve; vacuum line not connected or leaking EGR valve gasket.

good luck
