cruise control has a mind of its own
cruise control has a mind of its own
I have a 1997 CL 2.2L manual trans with 175K miles, bought from original owner last year. Cruise worked fine until about last October. It might just be coincidence, but it seemed like it started acting up when the outside temp got below about freezing. I use the cruise on the freeway, and also on the local secondary roads down to about 35 MPH to avoid getting speeding tickets from the overzealous local police forces. I leave the dash switch always on, and cancel the cruise with the two steering wheel buttons or the brakes. What happens is when I push the set button on the wheel the setting doesn't lock at the speedometer speed -- the cruise control immediately advances the setting to around
5 MPH higher. I can get it back down to where I want it by quickly pushing the reduce speed button a number of times. Sometimes on warmer days it works fine, but it doesn't make a difference whether the engine is warm or cold when it acts up. I already checked the cabling and it isn't too tight. I suspect it isn't the cable servo unit either.
Anybody have any ideas? Wheel speed sensor? Transmission speed sensor? ECU? Cruise control brain box? Thanks!
