Could this be a problem with the speed sensor?

Hello all, first time poster.
I just bought a '98 3.0 cl the other day, and everything seems to work fine except the speedometer and the cruise control. With the speedometer it will work for a little while at random times, but then drop down to zero and stay there. The cruise control also doesn't work and I've read in a couple places that the two together can indicate a problem with the speed sensor. The only thing that seems amiss is that the check engine light doesn't come on. I'm not the most knowledgeable about cars, so I figured it was worth a shot to ask here. Thank you!

The Vehicle Speed Sensor is the issue with the speedometer, the speedometer issue may be impacting the Cruise Control
