Arrow Clogged EGR Valve...? = Car not wanting to drive?

Ok, so recently, my [Check Engine] light has been on. I went to the local auto parts store, and I got a EGR code. (i think it was like PSO94?) Anyway, they told me the EGR valve is clogged and needs to be cleaned out....

Most of you know that the EGR Valve was under Recall...but when I talked to Acura, they said the warranty under the recall, only covered things like new plugs and wires...etc. Sooo I don't know if they are going to charge me a buttload to remove the intake, and clean out the EGR Valve and all the ports.

Has this happened to anyone else before? Can anyone give me some insite on it?

Also, ever since this happened, my car is acting REALLY sugglish in 1st gear between 1-3K RPMS....the only way to explain what the car is doing, is:
"The car seems to act like its cold...and like it dosnt want to shift gears. Like it feels like someone who dosnt know how to drive a manual. Like I push on the gas, and the car dosnt respond and kinda shakes for a bit...then finally gives in and goes. (the sluggish/shaking is only from like 1k-3k rpms....)

Im guessing this is because the valve is clogged?? What do you guys think? Can anyone help?

egr valve is covered for 8 years or 80k miles. that dealership is bullshiting you about that. They have to replace some hoses or something for the egr, and either clean or replace the egr valve.

I got this info on ownerlink... good shit. you should check it out.

huh? whats "Ownerlink?" Yea, they said the warranty is good for like plugs and wires and stuff...but not if the EGR valve is clogged and needs cleaned out...(they said it was gonna be like $200 to fix/clean out everything)

Shouldnt anything relating to the EGR valve be covered???

i would suggest to try to clean it first then go from there, if your expieriencing the same driving then obviously look into replacing it.

hey, 8 years, 80k.

The EGR port IS covered, but call Acura's 1-800 #, and tell them that you want them to check, to see if your car is covered under that warranty( you will need the your VIN #).
And bring it in to a stealership to have it done. I just had mine done not too long ago, so if the dealer tries telling you BS, call the BBB and Acura customer care.

Since it is a warranty, and you are covered under it, you will pay NADA. The cleaning, replacing of the vaccuum lines, and any damage caused by the EGR port being clogged is covered under that warranty.

Good luck

I had the problem a month except the code I got was 1491. I went to the dealer and they replaced the EGR valve.

P.S. My car is a 97 3.0 CL -148,000 miles

Cool EGR valve

I had the same issue. Mine was a code 80 I believe. The EGR valve port is too small and it causes Carbon to build up in the valve port. I had over 200,000 miles on mine when I heard about this whole issue. I bought a new EGR valve and replaced it. I tried to see if Acura would be cool and do it, but I had to pay $290 to have it drilled out. I only payed for the labor.I already had the "kit". I believe I actually bought it off the forums here. The port needs to be 'drilled' out and there is a teflon sleeve that goes in there as well so the carbon doesn't build up and restrict airflow. I believe they extended the warrenty on the part to 10 years or 150,000 miles because it was such a widespread issue with almost all the 97 3.0 CL. You should though call Acura customer care and start there first so you have ammo to use against the dealership if they say they won't fix it. If that happens though, you might think twice about 'trusting' your car in their hands.

Just my with my experience on this issue.

Take it back to Acura. When a car has to come in for service 3 times for the same thing, they call in a "specialist" from the factory to fix it. And if they cant fix it they do something to compensate you if i remember correctly. If it was a brand new car then they would give you a new car under the lemon law thing.

Cool

Well, if they are just replacing the EGR valve and not actually drilling the port as it should be done, it will keep happening. I am not sure of the damage, if any, that will happen, but I know that it is not functioning the way it was engineered. ALSO, it was not a RECALL, it was a bulletin which if you meet the requirements for it then they will do it for free. I had too many miles, so I had to pay for it. If they did drill out the port and put the "kit" in with the teflon sleeve, there may be something else wrong. What year CL do you have?

Same thing for me on my 97 3.0 CL. The code is P1491 = EGR Valve Lift Insufficient Detected. After doing a little research I found Honda Motor Corporation Automotive Division has extended the Emissions Warrenty to 150,000 for 95, 96, and 97 cars (didnt specify model). So I called the Acura dealership, made an appointment, and any/ all work done is covered. Appointment is this coming Saturday. We'll see how it goes I guess. It would be nice to think that I would have been notified about the warrenty extention, seeing as how its basically a freeby tune-up if nothing else.

Good luck to you (and me too!)

Mine was still under "recall warranty" and Acura replaced the entire EGR valve, replaced the plugs, wires, cleaned out the ports etc....although my engine is still lagging and running like shit. Now my o2 sensor is jacked...hopefully once that is replaced, my engine will be better
