ABS not working

Ever since i got my car (97 2.2CL manual about 5 months ago) my ABS system hasn't been working. A few times i had to stomp on the brakes to avoid deer and my wheels just lock up and i just slide.

I was ignoring the problem until recently when it was lightly raining and i had to stop due to a red light. When i hit the brakes my car just slid up to the light barely coming to a stop before the intersection.

I was wondering what the problem could be... maybe a fuse or just a bad ABS unit? any ideas?

ABS can have a number of problems. All are easy to fix. First step is to determine the code/s set by the ABS controller. Short service check connector under the glove box (blue 2-wire male connector usually plugged into a dummy holder, piinch to remove and install short wire jumper). Turn keyswitch to ON, and ABS light will flash the codes. All short flashes (f), w/ short pause (p) between 1st and 2nd digit. Long pause of several seconds between multiple codes. Example: Code 4-1 = ffff-p-f.

Post your codes and I'll try to provide some guidance on how to proceed. Plenty of ABS parts are readily available as 94-97 Accords are direct donors to the 2.2CL's. Modulator (most expensive part) is easy to find at <$100 and many times <$50.

I repaired my daughters 2.2CL by replacing the modulator due to an internal valve leak in the modulator. I had to buy two modulators and combine some parts to get a working unit. It's still going 2 yrs later.

good luck

I jumped my connector and my lights come on (very dim but it is on) but will not flash at all. I also noticed my SRS and CEL are on as well as long as its jumped but neither of those flash and I left it hooked up for 3 minutes and neither light ever flashed. From all the pictures I have seen I know this is the correct wires it is the only one with the blue connector on it but can't figure out how to get the codes if it won't flash anything. Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Did you possibly forget to turn the keyswitch ON? Could be your small error.

I wanted to add I even changed the brake pads today (front and rear) and also cleaned all the sensors to make sure that wasn't the problem and the light is still on and still will not flash a code no matter what I try

I think I have it fixed, even though I didn't do anything really to fix it. i had a cluster out of a 98 in my 97 and the light was on. I replaced it with one from a 97 and now the light is not staying on any longer. Maybe that's why it was not giving any codes, because nothing was wrong with it. I know he light works because its on when you turn the switch to the on position (not cranking it). I don't know what caused this but with the 97 dash in everything seems to be working fine

^but does the abs work?
just go about 20 or 30 and slam on the brakes and see if you can lock em up

personally i hate abs, but for me i don't like it cuz of them not stopping well in winter and whatnot, but it could really save your ass on gravel etc..
and people know you mean business when you lock em up and jump out the car

I could never get them to lock up before just the light was on and was going by what everyone else was saying that if the light was on the ABS was shut off, but even with the light on I couldn't get them to lock up like my truck does. They still do the same thing, they do not lock up and slide when slamming on the brakes. I just don't understand what made the light turn on once the car was cranked with the 98 cluster, does anyone else have any idea why?
