ABS light and Tranny Q!!!!!!
New here to the CL site so let me start by saying hello and now to my question and im sorry if this may have been covered somewhere else that I missed. I have well over 100,000 miles on my Acura cl 3.0 and have replaced the timing belt, water pump, oil pump, radiator, thermostat, alternator and belts do to just up keep or wearing from time but when it comes to tranny I don’t get involved even on my civics I build so im clueless…
Question 1: When im at a stop and I start to accelerate it feels like the tranny stays in 1st gear much to long and a much higher rpm than it should and jerks it to second, its not a smooth exchange form 1st to 2nd at all but after I get into second (keep in mind this is a Auto) it smoothes out and have no problems, and yes I have had the transmition flushed not so long ago. I’m hopping the tranny is not just giving up on me but if it is I have no choice but to replace it.
Question 2: I have 97 3.0 and I swapped my cluster out with a 98 because I liked the red needles better, but after I installed the cluster I got a ABS light that was never on before…I haven’t taken it to Honda yet but will if I cant find out the problem myself. I was wondering if this was do to the year change or if this is common and there was a quick fit.
Thanks for your help...

go here http://home.insightbb.com/~niedejb/ to get the code for the abs light.
im pretty sure your tranny is toast. i think 70% of everyone on this board has had the tranny replaced atleast once.. sometimes up to 7-8 times. if and when you get it replaced or rebuilt, get a tranny cooler, it will make it last longer. be happy you got 100k out of it.. some people are replacing them at 30k.

I just turn 146,000 miles on my 99 3.0 tranny. Go the fluid replaced at about 140. Still shifts smoothe and runs like a freaking champ (knock on wood)
As for your abs light, mine was on as well. Two possible things: Bad / dirty sensors or bad ABS modulator unit. Location of this is on the left side of the fender well when you lift up the hood. Just look for the brake lines that do a straight 90 down into the unit. I picked one up used online for 125.00. Not bad but I now have ABS again and that annoying amber ABS light is now off. Good luck though, those babies are hard to find. Hope that helps! ~dangeris

Thanks for the help, im dropping of the cl on Friday to get the EGR fixed. My car was under the extended warranty so I don’t have to pay for it and while there fixing that I am getting them to tell me what’s wrong with the tranny and the ABS.
Also: I checked the code on an OB2 check engine module and it gave me a EGR code but that’s all, nothing for the ABS so that’s why im getting Acura to check it out.

Well I took my car to the Acura dealership last week because my ABS light was on and I was getting an EGR code, they informed me that my EGR valve was under the extended warranty up to 150,000 miles. You may want to call them and see if your vehicle is covered; it would have cost me around $550.00 – $600.00 for labor and parts. I also had them do a diagnostic ($90.00) on the car to tell me why my ABS light is on and they explained to me that it was do to me have a different year cluster installed (I own a 97 CL with 99 cluster installed) this doesn’t make much sense to me…but I don’t work on my CL like I do my EG6. Maybe you guys can help me with that one, I figured like with other Honda models as long as you keep the same generation model you could interchange parts as I have done with my civic and integras for years but this may be different im not sure. They said my ABS was fine and everything was functional so im at a loss on that one. My tranny is a different beast all of its own, from reading your posts I figure its just going out and I should be glad to get over a 100,000k out of it. It’s something I am just going to have to deal with if I chose to keep the car…and I do. When I do rebuild it I will let yall know how it goes…

just a few questions to see how sharp my skills are on these things, and outta my own curiosity, did it shift rough before the tranny flush? also how many miles on it before you flushed it? and you might have a problem with you 'highway to hell' causing your first gear tv pressures to be to high, or the spool vavle could be catching up on something, just let me know if you get around to it
