ABS light

I have a 99 3.0 CL.

The ABS light comes on periodically and recently stayed on for several days.

The dealer says it's the rear wheel speed sensor and the sending unit. $1,300 to fix both. Cost $48 for the diagnostic.

Could my new wheels be the problem rather then the speed sensor?

I have the same problem and when I checked my codes it was a rear wheel speed sensor. Price seems out of whack, I'd check the local junkyards for the part. Just checked eBay and they have a few of them for less than 40$... by the look of the part, it looks to be pretty much plug and play...

I'm not sure about 99 models, but earlier models allowed ABS trouble codes (DTC's) to be accessed by shorting the service check connector under the glove box. Turn keyswitch to On, and ABS light will flash the codes. A 2-sec initiator flash, followed by DTC's w/ all short flashes and short pause between 1st and 2 digits of code (ffff-p-ffff = 44). This will usually allow repair because the codes are very specific to the faults.

good luck

How do you short the service connector under the glove box? I get the ignition part though, is the dash ABS light going to blick or is it a diiferent light else where. Thanks.

short it with a paper clip or piece of 20-22 gauge wire. The ABS light itself will light up.
