99 Acura cl 3.0

I'm a noob and need major help.. I'm not even sure if the cl commnuity is still on this but my car is starting to slip alittle . It jumps alittle going from park to 4th and form first to second. The guy at the nearest mechanic shop checked the fluid , seen that it was black, and just automatically told me to get a new transmission. The car currently has 260k and I'm not sure what the last person did matinance wise . If anyone is near me or can at least guide me.. I'd appreciate it .

ok thats a bit far from me. im in the midwest. First thing I would do is get a case of Honda dw1 from the dealer or amazon and perform a drain and refill. You need to get that old cruddy particle filled fluid out of there!

I heard it can be a solenoid problem as well.. When I went to the mechanic he checked the fluids .. I seen that they were pretty dark, but right off the back he tells me to get a whole new transmission.

The mechanic wants to sell an easy job where he can make good money.

Trying to diagnose a trans issue is different for every case and likely takes many hours and sometimes you cannot find the problem. Likely something he doesnt want to do.

First I would get new fluid in there asap and then we can touch base on the solenoids on what to do.

Drive the car a couple hundred miles and then do another drain and refill.

Did the jerking stay the same, get worse or subside a little after you put the new fluid in?

It actually did drop dramatically, here and there it's really noticeable . I drained and filled, also let the car run for about 30 minutes yesterday before driving it.

If it helped the jerking then doing another drain and refill will most likley help even more! That is very good to hear.

Ok next thing to do is test solenoids for correct resistance and proper valve movement.

Also the screens need checked for buildup and cleaned out if necessary.

The TL side has a couple of diy and is very similar. Here is link.

https://acurazine.com/forums/third-generation-tl-2004-2008-93/diy-solenoid-filter-clean-testing-858525/

The link only shows the linear solenoid being taken off and cleaned but you apply the same testing to the other solenoids on your trans as well. Some of them have different resistance readings tho.
