98 CL won't rev past 4000 rpm

Whats good fellas? I have a 1998 Acura CL, 2.3 4 cyl. Now I've been browsing through the net in order to find a problem for my car. The problem being that when I'm driving, my car won't go past 4000 rpm. Now for you to have an idea of what I'm talking about, here's what happens.

I start my car, let it warm up for a few minutes and then shift into 1st gear ( for sanity's sake, lets get to it ), I rev the motor up and past the 4000 rpm mark, yet no vtech is heard. But it reaches the redline and then I shift into 2nd gear. Now when I pop it into 2nd gear, and attempt to go for the red again, it hits 4000 rpm and starts to act as if I hit the redline.

I asked a few friends who work on cars day in and day out, and I've received only mixed answers. One person claims it's the clutch, another claims it could have been the knock sensor, which I replaced already. Someone mentioned changing the oil, but I just changed the oil and still have the same issue. If anything my car now doesn't idle below 500 rpm anymore.

I'm to the point where I'm literally banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out. Any and all help would be appreciated. PLEASE HELP! - k, thanks!
