97 OBII code strange- light on

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and have a 97CL 2.2 question. Our car Check engine light is on but when I pull the codes it does not display in the normal 4 digits. It leaves digits blank. The three codes are ( the _ are blanks) 04_ _, 3_ _8, 10_6, If anyone can tell me what these are or another way I can check what the code means thanks, I can clear the errors with my OBDII tester but they come back- the car is running less than perfect...

Try getting the OBD1 codes by shorting the service check connector and reading the flashes; long flash for 10's digits and short flashes for units digits w/ 5 sec pause between successive codes.

good luck

I am using my own ACTRON OBII Scanner, and yes it is working properly. I scanned my truck with the MAF disconnected to force a code and it did as expected. Its strange that the Acura is not posting a full 4 digits. Is there a way to check the codes not using a OBDII scanner?
