97 CL Power drivers seat issue

OK, so heres the deal. My mom's driver seat years ago, when moving the seat back by the switch you would hear clicking, move it forward its nice and smooth. Then recently the seat will not go back at all. It still moves forward nice and smooth though. So what has happened since last Thurs., my dad brought it to two diff. mechanics. So we now have a donor driver's seat that we used to swap parts to and from the original seat. The guy swapped the forward/backward motor, the switch, and he swapped one of the lead screws since one on the original seat was binding. And the weird thing is that when the seat is put back in the car like normal the same issue occurs. But when the seat is out of the car and he applies power to the forward/back motor and uses the switch, the original chair and the donor chair will move like normal. But when the chair is put back into the car and plugged up like it should be, forward works like normal, but moving back it still does nothing. He checked fuses and relays and could find nothing wrong. So far we've spent about $400. And NADA!!!

I was going to try Tophers idea or at least take a look, but I dont think its the gears binding, it could be. Topher, which side do I open up, the switch side or the right side of the driver's seat? Thank in advance to anyone with any input!

97, thats exactly what my mom's seat was doing a few years ago, you can feel the clicking while sitting in the seat and only in reverse, yours may be heading down the road I'm on.

I will. Do you know if another seat from another car might fit? I wonder is any CL of that year came with a manual drivers seat?

My CL did that this morning gggrrr. I think CLs were built kinda screwy, they were built in Kentucky no where near its origin, the lights dimming when there's too much power in the car might have something to do with it. I'm not sure though.

when I first got my Cl it did the exact same thing, would move forward but wouldn't go backward. I thought I was going to have to change the motor in the seat but did some reading and found out if anything at all is on the track (could be a pebble) the seat would detect it and stop it from moving. I started looking and it had one of those red see through dice in the track, I took that out and it moves like a champ now
