97 CL losing gass when stepping on brakes + burning smell
Whenever I'm driving where I go, I lose a good amount of gas when step on the brakes. The gauge almost goes back to normal but it all adds up. I put 35 dollars worth of gas 3 days ago and I had more than 3/4's a tank. Now I'm almost out of gas. Another problem is whenever whether or not i use the heater/ac, i smell a slight burning smell. It's really strong from the outside tho. Any ideas?

the level gauge in the gas tank is at the back of the tank, so when you step on the brakes and the gas moves to the front of the tank the gauge reads lower than it should. the opposite happens if you stomp on the gas or park on a hill, the gauge will read higher than it really should because all of the gas is pushed to the back of the tank. as for going through so much gas, you probably just drive a lot? i know my car only gets like 19-20 mpg with the 3.0. as for the burning smell, too vauge to say. is there any smoke coming from the hood? does it smell like anything specific? have you checked all your fluids to see if anythings leaking or low?

I actually don't drive that much. School is on winterbreak so I've only been driving the bare minimum to just go to the gym pretty much which is less than 7 miles away. And the only smoke i get is from the exhaust when its cold but that's pretty much it. No leaks or anything. Maybe I ran over a plastic bag or something which is where the burning smell is coming from?

if your smelling a burning smell, especially outside, its usually a small leak burning up. as far as going thru gas... lead foot? :P but check your fuel lines to be sure. your smelling burnt smell and not gas, thats a good thing at least!
