97 CL died and won't restart
The car has a manual transmission. 4cylinder engine. Miles are just over 205,000. Bought it for cheap to flip it. Have done some work but nothing on the engine, all brake, body, window and suspension. One day recently I pulled up to a stop sign and the engine died. The engine cranks but does not start. I have good compression 100psi at 3 cylinders and one at 95psi. I have good spark. Checked spark by pulling all the spark plugs and grounding them all and then my son cranked over the engine. All four have strong spark. All the spark plugs were covered in gas when I pulled them out. Checked for pressure at fuel rail and it has plenty of pressure. Engine is not even trying to start. By this I mean the starter is working great and the engine is turning over but no fire is happening in the engine. I put the #1 cylinder at TDC and pulled off the distributor cap. The rotor is pointing between #1 and #3. I interpret this to mean that the timing belt has skipped some teeth, but if that were so how could I be getting good compression. I would love some feed back before I pull the front of my engine apart. Thanks in advance.
