97 CL 3.0 will not accelerate after hard driving

Twice over the last month while pressing my gas pedal the car will not accelerate. Both times was after I was driving my car hard like 90-120mph for a continuous 10-15 minutes. Then once I come back to regular speed and press the gas again nothing happens, the car does not die but will not accelerate. I have noticed that if I put in Neutral and back to drive this last time that worked and I was able to get the car to "go." I was curious if this is a tranny problem or fuel related. Wanted to know if anyone else had this problem as I am sure you have. Honestly if I drive normal it never does it, only when I am smashing the pedal. I wanted to know if my days are numbered and how long I have before I need to get a new car or get rid of this one before it is done. Thanks again for any help and if you need more info I would be happy to write.

Also

I feel like I should mention that recently in the last month I have been hearing a whining noise when I accelerate. This is a new noise and feel it may be timing belt related. I also am in the process of doing the usual water pump/timing belt swap every 120k and I am already 10k over that install.

I'm having trouble too, but at much lower speeds. Check your transmission fluid. If it smells burned, you might be in a situation like I am in.
