3.0 Cl Engine noise

I have 98 Cl v6. It's only got 89,000 miles. I was wondering what other j30a owners hear when they're engine is warm and at idle. I've noticed mine is quieter when cold but as the engine warms up i hear some loose valve trian noise. It sounds like the valve clearances need adjusting. This can't be the noise because if anything the clearances would become smaller when the engine is hot. So what could this noise be? Is it perfectly normal to hear this noise?

(The noise is like a clatter/ticking) Best description. Not excessively loud but I can't imagine injectors being that loud?

Thanks

yah, the fact that it gets worse as it gets hotter rules out the valves.

exhaust leaks usually get quieter as the car warms up too but not always.

honda/acuras have bad distributor bearings, they get hot and fail. could be that, is there a lot of red/black/brown dust under the cap, if so could be the bearing.
.... come to think of it check the power steering pump and alternator bearings as well.

my 3.0 ticks a bit but its the exhaust manifold and i dont care till i get my headers next year.

Nickla, I've noticed that ticking noise on my 3.0 when the engine is hot also. It has done that since I've had the car to my knowledge. Question: Do you hear the noise when you're inside the car or do you have to have the hood up to hear it? I only hear it when I pop the hood. Also, I hear the noise emanating from the drivers side of the engine bay. My thoughts were that is was either distributor or valve noise, but I'm unsure. Hope it's normal!

It can't be the alternator because i just had it rebuilt. I don't hear anything coming from the power steering pump. I'll take the distributor off and have a look next. I can't imagine it being an exhaust leak because like pitbulllover mentioned the leak would get quieter if anything, not louder. I'm beginning to think this engine just naturally sounds a like this. If anyone else has any suggestions feel free to let me know. Thanks guys

I'm not sure if i mentioned but the noise is totally gone when up to cruising speed. And the noise is audible from inside the car with the windows down. more noticable when going through a drive through or into a garage.

lol, sounds kinda like my cr-v.,
with the exhaust, i have heard some of my old muscle car friends talk of header/manifold leaks that ticked as the engine warmed up,...??? .. but its rare.
when (if) you find the problem let me know what it was.

Update: looked at distributor and nothing appears bad. I checked for leaks around the front exhaust manifold and found nothing. I will check the back side when i can. I' m not too worried because the engine runs smooth and i've ruled out many things

The verdict I will conclude in my investigation is that this noise is normal. I've checked many suspect parts with no results. It must just be the noise of the engine, the way the engine sounds when it idles down once its warmed up.

good, now you dont have to worry and can drive in peace. mine makes noise some days and is quiet others, blasting down the highway blasting tool while blasted i rarely hear anything other than a 14 min. tool acid trip.

id say that with most people (me included) over react and freak the fuck out when they notice something with their cars till they get it figured out, its my rocket ship and i love it i dont want something to go wrong with er' nore do you and thats a good thing. some people never fix anything unless the absolutely have to,... oil changes at 12,000km's n shit.

I'm terrible with noises lol! I hear the slightest creak while driving and trip! I now have a new noise to worry about when I turn the wheel to one side or the other I have a noise and feel the feedback from it. Thinking steering rack but who knows! Part of being a fanatic I guess!
