1999 CL 2.3 VTEC solenoid
My 1999 CL 2.3 has an intermittent problem that seems to be oil pressure related. I'd like to know what some of you think.
First off, my check engine light is on. We have scanned it multiple times, I don't remember the code but it was the VTEC solenoid. Either way, I have replaced it twice and the problem still persists. The light comes back on and stays on even when we clear the code.
Here is what is happening:
When I am accelerating, sometimes my transmission won't rev past 4000 and it acts like it is hitting the rev limiter. Sometimes I can tell when it will happen, I notice a slight lack of power, but it is not always predictable. It doesn't matter if I am accelerating hard or easy, it still will do the same thing.
Any suggestions?

If your oil pressure is low, it can trip a VTEC solenoid DTC. especially if you're revving high and using the VTEC. Low oil level can cause low oil pressure or your oil pump may not be supplying enough oil pressure or you could have a clogged oil passage. or there could be faulty wiring that controls the solenoid. If you're not up to the challenge, sounds like you need to take it to an experienced shop.
vtech issue
I had the same issue where my vtech would not kick in after 3500 rpm and I lost power and acceleration. The problem was indeed very low oil pressure, I was down almost 3 quarts of oil due to leaks. Once I filled up, I reset the ecu and everything was back to normal.
