Wow, looks great spence, I really like the look. Glad you finally pulled it off, since people have been talking about it for years, but you're the first to actually do it!

i was going to have my roof done a month ago, but havent had time for him to install the roof overlay.

he is making one for our cars, so you dont have to paint the roof.

Paint looks terribly uneven.. Glossy and dark on some swirls, and light and matte on other swirls.. If you use the paintgun, I bet it would look A LOT better. I love the concept though.

id hit it with a clear coat definetly if you didnt.. that will even out all the microscopic differences and make it go from rattle can to pro looking.

trust me, ive rattle can'd alot of shit as you so duley noted haha.

i didnt use gloss black. i used universal black, with a TINY coat of clear for a matte look. kinda forgot to say that. these pics were as the clear was still drying. this clear came out a slight grey out of the can, and then dried clear. it really had me scared.

but, i decided im gonna hit it with a few coats of clear to get the gloss look. matte was just an idea, and it didnt work. but i have to wait a couple days for the current clear to cure before i can add more.

i got flaaaamed on h-t. accused of being rattle can happy. this is the first time ive painted something with a can, and not mixed my own shit. im about to refinish my wheels, and im getting my own gun this week.

as far as the red lugs/A sign, i think im gonna hit the lugs with black. it will look a lot better with the roof. cause something just isnt right now that i have the roof and window trim. other suggestions please?

I think you should have gone with a gloss black

I guess this idea is really popular right now.
I'm glad I'll probably be able to see how it looks before I give in and pay for this. Been holding off on going through with it. Is this really the best use of my student loans?
Apparently this one place will do a two-piece for $50, but a one-piece is like $150. $50 is tempting...

im talking about mixing the paint, the clear, and the hardner. which is what you do when you use REAL paint. opposed to having them pre mixed when you buy a spray can.

What type of paint is automotive paint anyways? latex enamel? if so... i work in a hardware store, one of the things i do is mix paint. depending on the type of paint.. i can mix up custom colors.

im not sure. i know every paint store ive gone to hasnt been able to mix oem colors. but i think its just because of the color codes. ive been going to a shermin williams automotive store.

update: FML, i hit it with a few new coats of clear yesterday, and got straight gator skin. so looks like ill be lightly sanding the clear away, and re clearing the whole thing. unless anyone can suggest something else to do.

using a can, and aiming down at a roof is very difficult. they definately arent made to point down. does anyone know of any spray cans that are 360 degree safe?

^^ the only thing you can do is get a line marking can for an inverted spray, youll get all color drips and no aeresol if you do it otherwise. 100% best thing you can do is go at a 45 or less degree angle, thats actually the optimal mixing point inside the can. also, shake the fuck out of the can every 5-10 seconds of continuous spray. that keeps it well mixed.

Id try wetsanding the gatorskin before you just completley sand it all off
