Thumbs up DIY: How to seafoam (3.0)

I know this DIY guide should belong in the DIY section but I know there are alot of people that have been waiting for a complete guide so here it is.

Yes, I know the vid cheesy. Was originally doing this vid to make fun of "Goss's Garage" on MotorWeek. But after the first scene, I thought I could really help people with seafoaming

Yes, I know I should have used a funnel to pour the seafoam into the crank case, I just didn't have one available at the moment. And I was trying to get this done before it got darker.

Are those paper cups you put it in? I wouldn't do that in the future. Paper cups have a wax coating that can be dissolved by the solvents. Not sure how/if getting wax in it will effect things, but it's probably best to be safe and use plastic/glass containers.

Excellent work though and thank you!

Haha yeah, washed/clayed/paint cleaner/waxed the week before because I was gonna do it then but couldn't get a camera man. Then it rained like crazy during the week so I gave it a quick wash before Carson showed up with the camera.

Ohh so true man, thanks for the heads up. I was looking for those clear plastic cups but all we had were the tiny plastic ones.

I was pretty scared the first time too but it's super simple once you see it.

Haha indeed! It was even crazier when we got on the main road. What's hilarious is that the smoke doesn't really disperse really well. When we got back into the neighborhood, it was all foggy lol.

Not a CL but same engine and process. Also explains how seafoam works at the beginning of the vid.

Thanks Shadoh!

LOL, why do you call it the crank case? And you are suppose to do oil change right after! dude, process is 1/3 pvc, 1/3 engine oil, 1/3 gas tank! and you are suppose to be have like a quarter of tank in your gas tank!

I call it the crankcase because that's what it is called......
No... 1/3, 1/3, 1/3, is not "the process", it's just what is recommended. (which btw is covered in the instruction slides in the vid). The process is however you want it. I'm pretty sure the great seafoam gods aren't going to curse my car or strike me with lightning if I do it a little different than what is "recommended". Also you don't HAVE to change your oil RIGHT after. Just as long as you don't drive it for more than a few hundred miles, it should be just fine. I drove around town last night after the seafoam and changed the oil this morning and the car didn't blow up...don't worry man. As for having a quarter tank of gas, again it is "recommended" but I really didn't feel like siphoning gas out of my tank to make it a quarter tank... 1 can in a full tank gives the same effect. Chillax bro.

Haha heck yes! My lights dim when vtec kicks in now!

lol but seriously, they do, it's weird... This was even before seafoaming though so I know that's not the problem. I'll record it sometime.

All of them. Yeah same here. Moving the power seat too. I'm pretty sure it's my battery though. It's ooooold.

I could have swore by the pictures I have seen on here that he had a 2.2 because I thought he had a straight drive transmission and I didn't think there was a way to put a manual in a 3.0? did you swap the engine and trans in the car?

I did the EGR seafoam and gas tank but didn't do the crank case since the engine was just rebuilt and when looking in the oil cap its clean in there and I just changed the oil about 700 miles ago. Anyway after I shut it off and let it sit I noticed the CEL was on with a p303 and P1399 codes. Is this because I unhooked the EGR valve while it was running? I cleared the codes and can't duplicate the codes after driving it around the block a few times. I guess what I am asking is did yours throw any codes when you did the EGR like this?

You will throw codes, most diy's say to pull the battery terminal and reset your ECU after driving the car with the codes. As long as they don't come back, you should be good

yeah I drove it for a couple hours and since they never came back i figured it was because I pulled that hose while it was running. I reset the CEL with my scanner after i drove it around to blow it out and it hasn't returned. I really figured that was what it was since the CEL wasn't on before I did this but just wanted to mention it just in case someone else had the same thing happen and was like wtf, I done messed something up

It didn't throw a code for me (never threw one code from the 3 years I had it) but I have heard it happen.
Pretty much what Chris said.
