coilovers or strut replacement

I need to replace the struts on my 98 cl 3.0.

I like to do work myself, however upon my initial investigation I'm weighing a risk vs. benefit analysis on replacing the struts myself.

If I get the coilovers where the strut and springs are tied in is that technically a safer or easier install for a noob diy.

Note: have replaced struts before, 91 4runner but the strut was not inside the spring, super easy diy requiring simple tools.

Coilovers are a big upgrade - so if you want to go that route that's great. If you're not looking for a drop or stiffer suspension, then coil overs aren't for you, considering the price premium.

The job can be done safely if you use a spring compressor properly. If you're not comfortable doing it, find someone who has done it before.

Coils are obviously easier since it's the whole assembly, however you can rent spring compressors from advanced auto or autozone and return them for a full refund so you're not really losing anything, also we have a full diy about 5 threads down from yours, see here

Coilovers are only easier if they come with the upper mounts...if they don't it is basically the same job as just replacing the shocks.

FYI they are SHOCKS not STRUTS.
