can it be done?

i have a 97 acura cl and the grill broke off while driving..
instead of buying a new one i was wondering if i could do this(http://www.carid.com/images/accessor...ccessories.jpg) instead. welding and bodywork wont be an issue, its the heat from the 3.0l that i'm worried about, i know the car in the pic is a 2.2l

anything can be done with the right amount of money and time. I would think you would need a long CAI intake so you can get the airflow from the bottom. As for heat issues, thats something you would need to do trial and error for. Nobody has done it here before since i have been here. On top of things. it cost about 130 for a new grille from www.acuraoemparts.com not including Tim's discount. i don't think its worth the time and money for just a new look.

I was thinking it makes it look like a cavalier

I'm sure it can be done, definitely wondering about the air intake issues, but the whole lower area where the rad is will still be open, so I don't think you'll have issues.

Go grab a thick towel or something and stuff it in the hole where your grill was right now and drive around for a bit and see if it starts to overheat maybe?

Doubt it, like I said, the rad and condenser get most of the air from below which is a much bigger opening. Obviously it's doable if someone already did it in the pic

true but car in the pic is only the 2.2l model, smaller rad not as much heat produced..why i asked..and just because someone did it doesn't mean there wern't problems with it ..
