1999 3.0CL Drivers-Side Headlight Change/Replace

The instructions for changing the headlight bulbs are on page 195 of the 1999 CL owner's manual.

1. Remove the black plastic cover that goes across the front of the engine compartment by turning the locking screws 1/4 turn with a nickel or similar.

2. If you can do it, remove the black resonator tube to the right of the battery. I couldn't get it out. If you are changing the high beam bulb, you don't need to do this. Instead, pull up on the white reserve tank. It will slide out of a groove and you can place it aside without disconnecting it.

3. There is a tab on the electrical connector for the bulb socket. Press down on the tab and wiggle the connector off. You may need to press down on the tab and at the same time use a flat blade screwdriver to push the connector off. Notice I did not say "pry." Do not pry anything.

4. With the connector off, turn the bulb counter-clockwise 45 degrees. To lessen confusion, counter clockwise means you will be turning it AWAY from the outside of the car and TOWARDS the middle. It's counter-clockwise as if you were sitting in the engine compartment looking towards the front of the car.

5. Pull out the old bulb, use clean gloves and/or a steady hand to put the new bulb in, taking care not to let it touch anything during the install. Debris on the bulb or oil from hands can cause uneven heating and the bulb may fail.

6. Lock the bulb into place by turning 45 degrees clockwise and replace the electrical connector.
