WTF! Is Crutchfield wrong?? Please help...

I was just told by the Crutchfield sales adviser that the mounting depth is too shallow for ANY of their aftermarket 6x9 speakers!! WTF!
I'm hearing that many folks replaced their 6x9's. How did your speakers fit??? Did you need some sort of adapter?? Or is Crutchfield wrong?? They say the mounting depth is 2.8 inches and most speakers are in the 3 1/8 inch range...

I have the Infinity Kappa 6x9's in my rear deck and they fit fine with no problems at all. Crutchfield is probably wrong.

I just escaped work to go look at my deck and it does look like I have a ton of room back there. The only possible ting would be those steel rods that serve as springs to open the trunk look a bit close to the magnet.

BTW, did you change the speakers and still have the stock headunit in? How was the sound w/stock unit? (no $ to get head unit yet)

No, I have an MTX amp. You really can't drive the Infinty's with anything less than 30 Watts RMS.
If you want to drive your 6x9's with your head unit just make sure you get some with a high sensitivity and they should sound fine until you have more dough.

They'll fit fine, all you may have to do is bend the left rod (I think) under the rear deck to make them fit. I have Boston Acoustics speakers in there and they have an enormous magnet on them, and I just bent the rod a tiny bit and it fit in fine. Like he said, Infinitys really dont handle low power too well, but they will work, Infinitys have incredible sensitivity. Mine are running off the bose amp in there and they sound great, just lack a little bass, but I see you have a 2.2, so you dont have the bose system (lucky you!!!), but I imagine they will still do just fine in there. Good luck.

1997Acura30CL - How does your system sound with the Stock Head Unit. I have 3.0 with Bose system and I wanted to replace just the front and rear speakers (recommended by Crutchfield) with Sonys. Is this going to sound any better than stock? What's the deal with the Bose amps? People on this board say that the bose speakers each has its own seperate amp built in? is this true?

thanks.
