wont go into gear
ok so two days ago I noticedm y car was hard going into 1st, 2nd, and reverse when it was cold. Well I thot nuthin of it. Than the next day it happens again so I tried checking the tranny fluid, but I couldn't find it and so today I was gonna take it to a shop after I got home from school. Well I go to start it this morning wait a couple minutes and than I tried putting it into gear and I can't get it. I finally thot I got it into reverse than it started sounding like a grinding noise. so I idled it down my driveway and tried sticking it into first well I couldn't get it into first or any other gear. so I towed it to a shop today. Could it just be that my tranny fluid is too low? or what else can happen??

you should see the pressure on your clutch pedal. if it doesnt come up all the way, try pumping it. if u pump it and after awhile it comes back up, its ur master and/or slave clutch cylinders. also, when u shift to 1st try going into 2nd then first. same as going into reverse, 2nd then reverse, it works for me then again i have a stage 2 clutch....

if u can get these into gear with the car off then i agree.. the master or slave cylinder, is bad. if its the slave thier gonna rape you cause a rebuild kit is only like 15$ and theyll charge you like 150$ to do it. if u cant get it into gear with it off, then either your forks are bent, or the syncromesh is shot... even with no fluid it will still go into gear u just wont move anywhere.

yea... sounds more and more like thats common w/our cars - but I guess its just age. our first gens are starting to get old... 97 = 8 years old, 98 = 7, 99 = 6. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

i just had this happen not too long ago actually. try bleeding the line. was the clutch pedal soft, catching really close to the floor, or was it full pressure. if it was full pressure, there should be about a half inch of "freeplay". what i mean is you should be able to push it down about a half an inch b4 it starts engaging the clutch. what this freeplay does is, it lets fluid into the slave cylinder so that it can operate a little solenoid that then in turn pushes the pressure plate arm blah blah blah etc. if its not letting any fluid into that solenoid, the pedal will feel normal but it just wont disengage the clutch. theres a little arm you can adjust on the slave cylinder to regulate how far the solenoid can retract.
this is where your clutch fluid goes(the small one)![](https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v703/BlueCLRycR/tutorial/cmaster.jpg)
and this is your slave cylinder(the thing with the steel line stickin out of it)
the place where the fluid is stored is called the master cylinder. there is a steel line that goes from the master to the slave. but its kinda hard to tell you whats wrong unless i know what the pedal feels like.

I had him do it for me, since I'm not that good with tranny's. It was 175 for parts labor and fluid. He even cleared a code I had so my check engine light isn't on anymore.

well the book said to change both the master and slave but he said he's done it by just changing the slave and it was fine that way. He also bleed the system.

did he change the whole thing or just rebuild yours? eather way a new one is like 30$ and theres only 2 screws holdin it on. and it takes 3 minutes to bleed. maybee a 30min job. well i guess to not go thru the trouble of gettin dirty its an ok price. but it feels better than new now huh?
