Who rides D3 around town?

you can ride around in D3 all you want. even if you shift into D4 4rth gear wont engage until you go over about 45 ( any other car this would be overdrive).
so dont be afraid to keep it in 3rd unless your doing hi speeds then youll end up revvin your engine real high and can possibly burn out your clutch bands in your trans.

i used to do this, but after a while, it seemed like if i put it into D4 my car was confused or something and would shift weird
so i keep it in D4 almost always now.
i know there's better response when you're around town in D3, but doesn't it burn gas faster since you're in higher rpms?
i'm probably the last person on this forum to be giving advice, though..

There's no "d1" or "d2" anyway. I'm pretty sure 1 is 1st gear, 2 is 2nd gear. Who'da thunk it?

ok smarty, but there is a "1" and a "2" doesnt say "d" on it, but there its still 1st gear and 2 gear.

and i agree with Shnee, the car does seem confused when you shift back in d4 so i keep d3 just for long hill climbs, i dont think there is a straight road for miles around here, not even the highways tho, but yea i almost never put it in d3 while on the highway, i did it once by mistake i had no clue it was in d3 and i was in a rush so i was going 85 90 and i heard a real weird noise and i looked down and rpm stick looked like it was gonna explode out of its place so i pulled over and shifted to d4

So technically if you keep it in D3 for a week of so, doesn't the ECU kinda reprogram itself to get used to that style? Consequently making the car act a bit funny when going back to D4? I would think that would clear up after a few days of driving.
Also, if you're riding D4 at 40mph, you're at approx 1500-1750 rpm. D3 is 2250-2500. So I wouldn't think gas consumption would be that bigga deal. I've done "tests" where I'll use only D4 on a tank of gas and I get basically the same mileage per tank as when I use D3 and D4.
*shrug*
isnt vtec suppose to be a gas saver though?

It's not quite a reprogramming of itself, but it can adapt. Basically, if you drive in d3 and get on the highway, it'll still hit 4th gear at higher speeds. D4 is more of an "overdrive"
