Arrow Where to hook up the OBDII scanner!!!!!!

Hi All,

I have a 98 2.3cl, the engine light came on and I cannot locate the OBD scanner plug on my car. Normally it should be under the dash driver side thats were one would find it. But I didn't see that and poked around but didn't find it.

Can some help me locate the plug where I can connect the OBD scanner and see what codes pop up???

Thankx
Javed

Behind the ashtray mang... Just pull it out and the OBOII connector is there. As for the jumper tric, why if he has a scanner would he bother?

Hi 97BlackAckCL,

It is basically a Muslim name, from Asia (India) a very common name in the Indian continent. Means "Immortal", i guess another word for Immortal. It is funny isn't it.

Any ways thanks for the help guys.

Sometimes there is a pending code that has been detected but CEL has not been set due to requirement to see same problem a number of times before setting code. It never hurts to try to find out what DTC was set.

good luck

Hi Guys,

Ok the code that came up was P0171: System too lean (Bank1). Does any one know what this means and how to fix this problem?? The car drives normal and I dont feel any hesitation. Can some one suggest some solution or checks that I should perform.

Thanks
Javed

got that same shit.

I had to clean out the EGR port, it was all blocked up with carbon deposits.

i was gonna write up some steps, but you have the 2.3 motor, i have the 3.0 and they have very different designs. But it is the same code that i had, just find your EGR and clean out the inlet holes for it. I used brake cleaner and a pipe cleaner. Codes have been gone ever since. I just wish i could turn off my SRS light now.

O2 sensor, intake manifold leak, exhaust manifold leak are likely causes of problem. O2 sensor seems most likely, but a diagnostic observation of the O2 sensor voltage trace might be in order to understand problem better.

good luck

you should call the dealership and see if they'll honor the emissions warranty on your car.

Hi Guys,

I got the engine light on again. When I hooked up the OBD scanner this time it is showing 2 codes P0170(Fuel Trim malfunction..Bank1) and P0171 ( System too Lean...bank1). Some one told me to clean out the EGR valve & Port. I tried but was not able to unbolt the EGR assembly.
Can some one tell me how to unbolt the EGR valve??? is there a specific tool that helps do this task?? or do I have to remove a number of other components before I can get to the EGR valve nuts for me to be able to loosen them.

PLease help

Thankx
Javed

There are a number of potential sources of this problem. however EGR is unlikely. Best possibilities are intake manifold leak, exhaust manifold leak, or primary O2 sensor failing. O2 sensor seems most likely.

good luck
