you have to get them pressed in im pretty sure, that price doesnt sound too bad if its for both of them. could be wrong, just my opinion

I dont think he is talking about both Alex.
Bearing shouldn't cost more then $50. The problem is unpressing the hub from the existing bearing then repressin the new bearing in. I think $200 isn't too bad unless you can do it yourself.

It would probly be a lot cheaper if you talk off the stearing knukle your self and bring it in to them to press off and on.

^ some shops don't do bench work like that so find out first before you decide to take it out n bring it to them. Then finding out that they won't do it.

I don't think 200 is that bad of a deal. They have to press it in & out and theres no way your going to be able to do it yourself if you don't have a machine press.

I replaced mine in my prelude by just using a whole new knuckle. They are usually cheap from the junkyard if you can find one. This way you dont have to worry about pressing and unpressing or getting anything in the bearing that could cause it to go bad after a few thousand miles.

I have a DiY procedure for separating the wheel hub from the knuckle. You still need to take the hub to a machine shop to have old bearing pressed out and new bearing pressed in. PM me if you want the diy procedure.

good luck

Sorry, I don't have a hosting site to post the file for pickup. I don't see any way to embed a pdf file into the forum. I will ask a moderator for help. If you're in a hurry PM me w/ your email address for file.

good luck

Texas, If you are watching this thread, would really appreciate if you could email the pdf to Tony [at] TrackVision.net

I've searched the DIY&FAQ forum, but it looks like your DIY is not up there yet.

Many thanks!

Wheel bearing

Just to give everyone an update, I had it done but as usually it there's comes out to more than you expect. The $200.00 was for one bearing. While they were replacing it the drive shaft needed to be replaced because of wear from the bad bearing and then a control arm had to be replaced. Needless to say something that was supposed to run $150-$200 ended up costing me $450.00.

Dude. You got jipped. Thats the average mechanic scam. You go in to change one thing then they change a shit load of things. A bad bearing will do no forther damage to anything. The worst that can happen is that the bearing can freeze from the heat/melting. Worst case scenatio. Everytime a bearing has gone bad on me i have changed it months later at the point when the noise was too unbarable.
