what are W2 bulbs for?

what are W2 bulbs for?
what are W2 bulbs for? it would seem interesting to replace them with the 12v5w 168 bulbs in our bumpers and parking lights because they are 12v18w and ALOT brighter. any suggestions? precautions?

they are bigger in size also... so they tend to not wanna fit in the whole. Anyway, once they are in they melt the inside diffuser cause they get too hot and are too close to it. dont use them!
